Our home 'Casa Julin' is situated in the quiet Alpujarran village of Jorairatar, set in the hillside of the Contraviesa looking out onto the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Jorairatar lies on part of the GR142 walking route which runs from the West to the East of the Alpujarras. The village is a quiet working village as yet untouched by tourism but still home to the excellent museum of 'Las Alpujarras' where you can experience historic rural Andalucian life. Amenities in the village are basic (two shops and one bar), there is no public transport and little or no English is spoken. The community is mostly employed in farming, olives and almonds being the main crops.
The nearest town is Ugijar (about 15 mins drive) where you will find all amenities including medical centre, banks, bars, shops and restaurants. The village is approx. 1 hour 45 mins from Almeria airport, 2 hours from Granada airport and 3 hours 30 mins from Malaga.
